Computer-generated three-dimensional objects are often used on posters, advertising signs and Web pages. These 3D shapes can be created using a 3D modeling and rendering program such as Maya or Cinema 4D, but these programs are expensive, and mastering them involves a steep learning curve. If you have access to Photoshop CS3, you can use the new 3D model import functions to bring 3D shapes directly into the program. Once they're there, you manipulate them just as you would any other element, blending them with the conventional 2D graphics you are using.
Instructions
-
- 1
Go to a site such as Renderosity, Daz3D or Animations and download the 3D shapes you want to use. These sites have free images as well as image marketplaces.
- 2
Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "Open." In the dialog box that pops up, browse to and open the file that you want to add a 3D shape to.
- 3
Select "Layers" from the menu, then click "3D Layers." From the options, choose "New Layer from 3D file." In the dialog that pops up, browse to the 3D model you want to import and open it. It will appear on the canvas.
- 4
Right-click on the top layer (containing the 3D model) and from the options choose
"Transform." Use the tools in the 3D toolbar that appears at the top of the screen to manipulate the model. You can move or rotate the model.
- 5
Select "File" and then "Save."
