If you're familiar to typography, you might want to learn how to kern your letters correctly in adobe illustrator. The purpose here is to enhance the legibility of text as well as aesthetic quality.
Instructions
Things You'll Need
- Adobe illustrator
-
- 1 Open up your Adobe Illustrator, using text tool, type some words.
- 2 Using your character window, set your LEADING or spacing in between letters to 10 (in some cases, 25 or -10 or -25). This is to neutralize the overall spacing.
- 3 Now, if you are using windows xp, click on the letter that you want to adjust, press ALT and use your arrow button to move it forward or backward.
- 4 Although there's no specific formula here, letters with extreme curves and 'extension' such as O, C, G, and W might not be able to be mathematically adjusted, kerning is used to create an overall-balanced impression.
