How to Use Extrude in Illustrator for Type

When creating signs, ads or other documents, you often want the text itself to serve a visual role as well as communicate a message. One way to do this is to create a 3D effect for the text as though it has been extruded. If you are using the Adobe vector graphics application Illustrator to create your design, it is simple to create this effect.

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

    • 1
Open Adobe Illustrator. Select "File" from the menu and choose "open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open a document containing some text you would like to apply a 3D extruded effect to.
    • 2
Select the text you want to apply the effect to. Select "Effect" from the menu and choose "Warp." From the options, choose "Arc." A dialog will open.
    • 3
Set the "Bend" to 10 and the "Horizontal Distortion" to -30. Click "OK."
    • 4
Select "Effect" from the menu and choose "3D." From the options, choose "Extrude and Bevel." In the dialog, rotate the preview cube to get the angle you want and set the "Extrude Depth" to 20. Change the "Surface" to wireframe and click "OK." Save your work.

How to Convert Inventor to 3DS Max

Autodesk has an array of products related to 3D modeling and animation. One of the most widely used is Inventor. It is employed to create CAD designs for machines, parts or other items that might be manufactured. But Inventor itself is not necessarily the best tool use to actually show off a design. The creation of rendered images and animations based on the design is better left to another Autodesk product, 3DS Max. 3DS Max has an array of tools and functions that allow the user to produce a presentation or animation. Fortunately, Autodesk makes it very easy for users to export their Inventor content directly into 3DS Max.

Instructions

    • 1
Open Inventor. Use the tools of the program to create your model. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save." In the dialog that appears, name the file, choose the location you want to save to and save it in the standard Inventor format (.IPT or .IAM).
    • 2
Close Inventor and open 3DS Max. Click on the 3DS Max logo on the upper left corner and choose "Import." From the listed options, choose "Import." The "Import" dialog will appear.
    • 3
Change the "File of Type" to "Autodesk Inventor." Browse to the location of the file you want to import. Select it and click "Open." The model will appear in the view.
    • 4
Choose the options that you want in the dialog that appears, such as whether the imported model should use the Inventor textures and the resolution of the mesh. Then click "OK."
    • 5
Click on the 3DS Max logo again and choose "Save As." From the options, choose "Save As." In the dialog that appears, name the file, choose the location to save to and choose "3DS Max" as the file type. Click "Save."

How to Design a Logo in Adobe Photoshop

  1. Create a Logo

    • 1
Start Adobe Photoshop. Start a new Photoshop file.
    • 2
Select the shape tool from the Photoshop toolbox to create shape for the back of your logo.
    • 3
Add text on top of the logo, using the Type tool from the Photoshop toolbox. You will now have two layers in the Layers palette.
    • 4
Merge the two layers together by selecting "Merge Visible" from the "Layer" menu. Notice that in your Layer palette you have one layer now, called Background.
    • 5
Right-click on your Background layer and select "Layer From Background..." Name the layer and click OK on the dialog box. Now your logo is one layer and you can apply an effect to it.

    Bevel and Emboss a Logo

    • 1
Go to the "Layer" menu and select "Layer Style." And, then choose "Bevel and Emboss..."
    • 2
Select the style of bevel or emboss you would like and use the rest of the "Structure" settings to get the bevel or emboss exactly how you like it.

    • 4

Click the word "Texture" on the left-hand side of the dialog box.
    • 7
Choose a pattern and change the scale and depth to reflect the type and size of pattern that you want to apply to your logo.
